Penguin's Rugby warehouse, its teething problems of six years ago a distant memory, has shipped its half-billionth unit. The distributor designated a copy of J D Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye as the one to mark the achievement, and delivered it to Foyles in Charing Cross Road. Travelling Light Theatre Company's production of Bob, Man on the Moon, based on Simon Bartram's picture book (Templar), has just finished a four-month UK tour. Bartram (right) caught up with the show in York, and met Frank Wurzinger, who plays Bob. Bartram said: "Frank was a fizzing, living, breathing Bob and I'd be delighted to have him guide me around the Moon. The show was a joy."

Filmmaker Bill Redway (left) and journalist Sam Parkhouse, taking it in turns to play the "female" role in the partnership, won the Publishers (mixed doubles) Tennis Tournament, played in aid of the Book Trade Charity (BTC) at the Park Lawn Tennis and Squash Club in North London. The runners up (pic below) were Helen Thewlis of Dorling Kindersley and consultant (and tennis coach) Peter Davies. Thewlis won the Most Impressive Player award.

Peter Mandelson's The Third Man (HarperCollins) continues to dominate the news and reviews coverage for books. There was also good coverage for Esther Fairfax's My Improper Mother and Me from Pomona (Times headline: "How Mother taught us all to get fit for sex.")

The most widely reviewed titles included The Burning Wire by Jeffery Deaver (Hodder), American Caesars by Nigel Hamilton (Bodley Head), Hugh Trevor-Roper by Adam Sisman (Weidenfeld), and Inheritance by Nicholas Shakespeare (Harvill Secker).

Marking the 30th anniversary of the publication of Eric Hill's Where's Spot?, an exhibition of Hill's artwork will be on show at The Chelsea Gallery, Chelsea Public Library from today (26 July) to 23 August, and at Foyles in Charing Cross Road from 24 August to 19 September.
