Shortlists due next month


The judges for the 2018 Costa Book Awards have been announced.

COSTA FIRST NOVEL AWARD
Emma Corfield-Walters: owner, Book-ish Bookshop, Crickhowell
Nina Pottell: books editor, Prima
Sathnam Sanghera: author and journalist

COSTA NOVEL AWARD
Justine Jordan: fiction editor, the Guardian
Rachel Joyce: author
Zool Verjee: sales development manager, Blackwell's Oxford

COSTA BIOGRAPHY AWARD
Paula Byrne: author
Anita Sethi: journalist, critic and writer
Paul Wallace: owner, David's Bookshop

COSTA POETRY AWARD
Mimi Khalvati: poet
James Munroe: poetry buyer, Foyles
Sameer Rahim: arts and books editor, Prospect

COSTA CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARD
Rick O'Shea: RTE broadcaster
Fleur Sinclair: owner, Sevenoaks Bookshop
Imogen Russell Williams: children's book critic

The judges will announce their shortlists in November, and their category winners, who will receive £5,000 each, in early January. The five winners will go on to compete for the 2018 Costa Book of the Year, worth an extra £30,000 and to be announced on 29 January.
