The inaugural prize is for a translation of the first chapter -available from the Peirene website - of Italian novel Neve, Cane, Piede by Claudio Morandini. The judges will be novelist Amanda Craig, editor and translator Gesche Ipsen, and Peirene publisher Meike Ziervogel. They will announce their winner on 1 March.
The entrance fee is a £35 subscription to the press. Subscribers receive three novels a year.
