Sophie Jonathan, senior commissioning editor at Picador, has signed Kyra Wilder's debut novel Little Bandaged Days. Picador has world rights from Jon Curzon at Artellus Ltd.
The novel details the descent into madness of a young mother, Erika, while trapped in the confines of her perfect life and home.
Wilder received her BA and MA in English Literature at San Francisco State University, going on to work under Michael Tusk at the Michelin-starred Quince, making pasta. She continued working in restaurants in New York, before moving with her family to Switzerland, where she is now based.
Jonathan said: "Little Bandaged Days is a beautifully written, painfully claustrophobic story... with sections from the point of view of someone who has clearly been institutionalised addressed to an unknown visitor, you begin to wonder just what exactly Erika might have been driven to do. It deals with the way motherhood threatens to strip you of who you are. It is vertigo-inducing, terrifying, and - I think - rather special. I'm so very excited to publish this novel."
