Bestselling author of The Four returns with The Algebra of Happiness: Finding the equation for a life well lived

Transworld has bought UK & Commonwealth rights in The Algebra of Happiness: Finding the equation for a life well lived by Scott Galloway, New York Times bestselling author of The Four, 'in which he applies simple algebra and hard-won wisdom to the secret of a fulfilling life and career'.

The acquisition statement continues: 'As a professor at New York University's Stern School of Business, the debate in Scott Galloway's MBA class often veers away from business strategy to life strategy. At some point as an adult sh*t gets real, as Galloway puts it, and life becomes stressful.

'Even the smart, the elite and the hard working can feel lost in a complex, chaotic world. Employing the signature take-no-prisoners style that has made serial entrepreneur Galloway a sought-after commentator and influencer, he has created a dynamic formula for a life well lived.

'How can you have a meaningful career, not just a lucrative one? Is a work/life balance really possible? And what does it take to make a long-term relationship succeed? Through a series of equations - from measuring the relationship between success, resilience and failure to the correlation between happiness and money - Galloway has the answers.

In The Algebra of Happiness he explores how life can be navigated and negotiated better, to maximise happiness and minimise stress. Delivering practical advice and hard-won wisdoms, this is self-help for anyone struggling with life's big questions.'

Andrea Henry, editorial director at Transworld, said: "The book has its roots in a film Scott made for his 'Winners and Losers' channel on YouTube, which went viral. He’s offering the kind of straight-talking advice that people are desperate to have in a world that’s really confusing at the moment. There’s no softly-softly here; Scott’s delivery is really direct. Life’s hard; here’s how to navigate it better. We think the book will resonate with ambitious people who really want to get on in life but aren’t at all sure how, and people who like their self-help delivered with a punch."

The deal was conducted through Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Levine Greenberg Literary Agency. Portfolio editorial director Niki Papadopolous will publish in the US.

The Algebra of Happiness will be published in Bantam Press in hardback next June.
