Four young writers from the north of England will present their work to agents and editors
Bloomsbury is teaming up with the Writing Squad to host a networking event on 19 June, featuring four young writers who will have the opportunity to present their work and network with agents and editors.
The Writing Squad was founded by Steve Dearden and provides a two-year programme of support for young writers living, working or studying in the north of England. Many of them have gone on to work as writers, producers and performers.
Dearden said: "We have a good relationship with small and independent publishers, but have always found it difficult to bring exciting new voices to the attention of the big commercial fiction publishers. Since 2019 this has changed and London publishers have been proactively seeking us out. This initiative supported by Bloomsbury gives them and agents the opportunity to form early relationships with the best writing talent being developed in the north."
Alexa von Hirschberg, editorial director at Bloomsbury, said: "Developing regional diversity and finding new voices is essential to the health of our industry. We hope the showcase helps this exceptional organisation forge links and connections with agents and publishers in London."
