Noted Argentine writer whose crime novels have appeared from Bitter Lemon Press

Charco Press has signed Elena sabe (Elena Knows) by Argentine writer Claudia Pineiro. Charco has world English rights from Schavelzon-Graham Literary Agency.

Elena sabe was first published by Alfaguara in 2007, and won the German LiBeraturpreis. Charco's publication will be in late 2020/early 2021.

Pineiro is a leading literary figure in Argentina, and an outspoken campaigner on issues including abortion and writers' rights. She has had four crime novels published in English by Bitter Lemon Press.

Carolina Orloff, co-founder and director of Charco Press, said: "We are very excited to be reimagining Claudia's future in the UK market. To date readers here have only been exposed to her crime novels, but Claudia's range, output and appeal is so much broader. Elena Knows is a prime demonstration of her talent. The potential is huge."

Pineiro will visit the UK from 10 to 17 June as an invited speaker at the University of Edinburgh.
