Two-book deal for Rebecca Sky; her YA novel The Love Curse has clocked up over 10 million reads on Wattpad
Hodder Children’s Books has concluded a two-book deal with YA fantasy author and Wattpad favourite, Rebecca Sky. Sarah Lambert, editorial director, secured world rights through Sarah Manning at The Bent Agency.
The first book, The Love Curse, will publish in June next year. According to the acquisition statement: 'The Love Curse, a fantasy teen romance for 12 readers, follows Rachel Patel, a not-so-ordinary girl. Rachel is a Hedoness, one of a strong group of women descended from the Greek God Eros.
'She dreams of being normal, of her first kiss and falling in love. Instead, Rachel was born with the ability – though she’d say curse – to make any guy she kisses fall completely and irrevocably in love with her, taking away their free will. Hunted and on the run from the police, Rachel must decide who she wants to be and what she is willing to sacrifice.'
Lambert said: "Rebecca Sky has already won legions of fans online with her utterly compelling teen romance and I am so thrilled to welcome her to the Hodder Children’s Books list."
Manning said: "The Love Curse is a deliciously fun read with a whole lot of swoon and I can’t wait for more readers to discover it."
The author added: "It's a dream come true to be published by Sarah Lambert and her fantastic team. I hope readers new and old will enjoy the revamped version of The Love Curse as much as I enjoyed writing it." Sky lives on an island off the West Coast of Canada. Her work has so far received over 20 million reads on Wattpad, and she has been featured in The New York Times and The Boston Globe.
