Compendium containing 50 projects for under-sevens


Pan Macmillan imprint Bluebird has bought world rights to an activity compendium, The Joy Journal for Magical Everyday Play, by Laura Brand. Carole Tonkinson, publisher at Bluebird, completed the deal with Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown, and the book is set for publication in March 2020.

Featuring 50 projects for under-sevens such as making soap, moon sand and shadow puppets, the book lists the areas in which each activity might help a child develop, such as "creativity" and "listening". It features a foreword by Fearne Cotton and hand-drawn illustrations by the author, who is an illustrator and has two children with her husband Russell Brand (also published by Bluebird). She runs workshops for children and shares ideas on Instagram @thejoyjournal.
