In the last Damian Barr Literary Salon of the year, Diana Athill packs out the Mondrian Hotel.
A sell out crowd greeted Diana Athill, star attraction, at the last Damian Barr Literary Salon of 2015 at the Mondrian Hotel in London last week. Rapidly approaching her 98th year, Athill enthralled the gathered acolytes with a reading from her latest tome: ALIVE, ALIVE OH!: AND OTHER THINGS THAT MATTER (Granta) to be pubished 3 December.
Accompanying her on the dance card were Sloane Crosley and Nick Frost, who read respectively from THE CLASP (Hutchinson) and TRUTHS, HALF TRUTHS AND LITTLE WHITE LIES (Hodder).
Among the gathered guests were Polly Samson, who appeared in an earlier literary salon to read from her latest novel, THE KINDNESS (Bloomsbury), and her husband David Gilmour, who has just released his latest CD, RATTLE THAT LOCK (Columbia)
