Deal coincides with the release of her second adult novel, So Lucky
Kimberley Young, publisher of general fiction at HarperFiction, has bought world rights to two new novels by author, broadcaster and presenter Dawn O'Porter, in a deal that coincides with the hardback publication of O'Porter's second adult novel, So Lucky.
So Lucky explores the modern pressures we feel to "tick the boxes that supposedly make us 'lucky' in life", and HarperFiction is also launching an accompanying podcast for which O'Porter interviews guests including Matt Haig, Giovanna Fletcher and Sara Pascoe about the role that luck has played in their lives. The first episode of the 12-episode weekly podcast is launched at the beginning of November. O'Porter's adult debut, The Cows, was a bestseller when it was released in 2017 and has since sold more than 200,000 copies.
Young said: "With her bold and brilliant debut, The Cows, Dawn showed that she's never one to follow the herd, and I love how she continues to push the boundaries in her writing. She's a dream to work with and I'm in awe of her creativity and unique view of the world, which she puts on the page with such incredible relatability. I can't wait for readers to discover So Lucky and I, for one, feel amazingly lucky to continue to publish such a talented author and to embark on our new podcast venture."
O'Porter said: "I found a great home at HarperCollins. My editor, Kimberley, never holds me back. There is no taming, no playing it safe. I have a free run to push my characters to their limits, and that is all I could ask for. I am endlessly amazed by the efforts of the marketing and PR and sales teams. Seeing posters for The Cows in train stations across London was a true highlight of my career."
