£25,000 prize run by the British Academy

The deadline for entries to the 2019 Nayef Al-Rodhan Prize for Global Cultural Understanding is next Monday, 1 April. The £25,000 prize, run by the British Academy and sponsored by neuroscientist Professor Nayef Al-Rodhan, is for a book "that illuminates the interconnections and divisions that shape cultural identity worldwide". It was won last year by Kapka Kassabova for Border: A Journey to the Edge of Europe (Granta).

Eligible books are works of non-fiction published in English between 1 March 2018 and 31 March 2019.

The judges are Professor Ash Amin (chair), foreign secretary of the British Academy; historian Rana Mitter; social anthropologist Dame Henrietta Moore; Patrick Wright, author and broadcaster; and author Madeleine Bunting.

They will announce a shortlist of up to six titles in September. The winner will be announced at a ceremony at the British Academy on 30 October.
