Introducing Tom Ginger

Annalie Grainger, senior commissioning editor at Walker, has won a heated auction to sign two illustrated middle grade novels by Jack Noel. Walker has world rights from Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge & White, and will publish the first book, My Headteacher Is an Evil Genius, in August 2020.

Tom Ginger is the world's most unlikely hero. Ms Fortune is the world's worst headteacher. When Tom discovers her new braces have the power to listen in on the head's surveillance network, she realises it's up to her to save her school.

Grainger says: "Tom Ginger is such a refreshing hero for young readers. She shows that no matter who we are or how we feel about ourselves, there truly is a hero in all of us. And Jack's hilarious illustrations really bring this school comedy caper to life. We're honoured to publish his first middle-grade fiction."

Noel has worked as a cover designer for publishers including Walker and Simon & Schuster Children's. He is a co-host on the Down the Rabbit Hole children's books podcast. Egmont will publish his Comic Classics series in 2020.
