The categories are Novel, Popular Fiction, Non-Fiction, Popular Non-Fiction Book, Newcomer, Irish-Published, Crime Fiction, Cookbook, Sports Book, Listeners' Choice, Children's (Junior and Senior), YA, Irish Poem, Short Story, and Irish Language.

Awards chair John Treacy said: "More than ever this year it's important that we all row in behind the effort to inject fresh energy into a book world that has been operating under very difficult circumstances. The books and the talent will always be there and we at the awards are determined to make good some of the deficits these talented Irish authors have endured since the turn of the year. It's no more than they deserve and we're very confident that the celebration of books this autumn may well be our best ever, despite the difficulties endured."
