Speakers from Macmillan US, Chelsea Green, PRH
As part of a collaboration aiming to provide a range of resources for the book industry on environmental issues, BookBrunch and HP Publishing Services hosted a panel discussion on this important topic with three expert speakers and a specially invited industry audience on Thursday 20 May.
The speakers were Ariel Russ, sustainability manager at Macmillan US, with expertise in greenhouse gas emissions accounting and corporate sustainability practices; Matt Haslum, managing director at Chelsea Green Publishing, a leading publisher of books on the politics and practice of sustainable living that is committed to being a sustainable business enterprise; and Courtney Ward, sustainability production manager for Penguin Random House (PRH) UK, where she is involved in producing the group's new Sustainability Policy to reduce its environmental impact. They were in discussion with Ashley Gordon, HP Publishing Solutions sales manager, about a range of initiatives focused on improving sustainability.
With the participation of an enthusiastic audience - who answered in-event poll questions - the session covered how organisations can work out their priorities in addressing sustainability issues; which constituencies are most likely to be driving change; and what speakers would suggest as the one thing attendees could do differently tomorrow that would make progress.
A recording of the event, which lasted around an hour, is available to view here, while the latest HP White Paper, Reduce your Carbon Footprint, is available to download free of charge here.
