Winter Weekend opens tomorrow

Voters at the Hay Festival website have named Real Estate by Deborah Levy (Hamish Hamilton) their book of the year.

Gareth Howell-Jones, bookshop manager at Hay Festival, said: "Blending personal history, gender politics, philosophy, and literary theory, Real Estate is a compulsively readable narrative and a favourite among festivalgoers this year. The book was a bestseller at our spring event and we are delighted to celebrate it as our title of 2021."

Subscribers to Hay Player may view Levy's May 2021 interview with Lisa Appignanesi here.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Hay Festival Winter Weekend (24-28 November), stars of which will include Jeanette Winterson, Elizabeth Day, Lauren Child, Clare Balding, Bear Grylls, John Barnes, David Hare, Simon Jenkins, Hallie Rubenhold, Fi Glover and Jane Garvey, and Hannah Fry and Adam Rutherford.
